Inspired by the Oceans, theBlu (Unity) is a socially-connected, global interactive application. Each time you participate, your interactions and connections impact the flow of life in theBlu and everyone's experience of it. TheBlu is created and curated Academy Award-winning leaders and world-class artists and developers - we call them Makers. Each time you purchase beautiful species and habitats to add to the globally-connected Ocean, you support oceanic conservation.

Position - 3D Artist
One of the many roles I held while working on theBlu* was a 3D Artist. Below are screenshots of different species I created for theBlu, including images both during the creation process, and within the live app itself. I also provided art direction for other artists working on assets for theBlu throughout my entire time working on the project.
- Created multiple swimming species for theBlu, varying in shape and size
- Researched and gathered a great deal of reference in order to help correctly create each species in 3D
- Utilized a combination of programs like ZBrush, 3DS Max, Maya, Blender, Photoshop, and GIMP to model and texture the assets
- Created three different LOD's (Level of Detail) for each species, and the accompanying textures, to meet requirements for theBlu
- Posted progress on Wemo's Maker forums, and implemented any feedback I received
- Provided feedback and direction for other Makers (artists) creating content for theBlu
* Please note that the version of theBlu that I worked on was removed from the web and altered to work in VR after the company pivoted in a new direction.
Assets for theBlu
I modeled and textured the Narwhals and the Calico Bass in the images above for theBlu (Unity). The Bottlenose Dolphin, Achilles Tang, and Snowflake Clownfish, which I also modeled and textured, are all shown in ZBrush.
For all of these assets, I used a combination of 3ds Max, Maya, Photoshop, and ZBrush to create what you see. I also had to create 3 different LOD's for each asset. I really enjoyed gathering reference and learning about each species during the creation process.

The video above shows the Achilles Tang I created in a "test habitat" that allows one to preview a species before they're released into the app. Again, I did the modeling and texturing of the asset, while the animations were created by a student at Ai Santa Monica, CA.
theBlu Launches In Times Square - New York, NY
Here's a short clip of me working at theBlu's launch event in Times Square in May of 2012.
WildAid's "Wild Night" Event - San Francisco, CA
I set up and ran a display area for theBlu during Wild Aid's "Wild Night" gala event back in 2012. Below are some images of the display area, the whale award I helped coordinate the creation of, and the event itself.
